Underwater bracing is needed on a dock with a slip, that does not have a roof. The underwater brace connects both fingers underwater at the slip entrance providing strength and stability to the dock.
Your underwater brace connects the outside side of each finger and the inside slip side of each finger below the water level. The total length needs to be frame width of each side finger, plus the slip width. The total depth needs to be greater than the draft of your boat, typically a minimum of 30" as long as your water depth allows it.
